Lyla Maybee

MAYBEE, Lyla Elizabeth (nee McAuley) ~ Passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Predeceased by her husbands George W. Maybee and Oliver Thurston. Loving mother of Cheryl Holt (John) and the late Vincent. Grandmother of Michael (Mindy), Troy (Danielle), Scott (Chelsea) and Tim. Great grandmother of 4 and 1 on the way. Dear sister of Hubert McAuley. Predeceased by her 7 sisters and 3 brothers. Remembered by many nieces and nephews. Lyla was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sincere friend to all who knew her. She was very involved in the Sault Ste. Marie community and active in the Foreign Legion, as an International Bridge Ambassador, and Bon Soo. She was a pioneer for women in the funeral directing field and was the first female funeral director in Sault Ste. Marie. Anyone who knew her knows she was very strong willed and marched to her own drum. She loved all kinds of music and loved to dance. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the opportunity to meet her. Friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral service to be celebrated from the chapel Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10 am with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
