Ted passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 69, after a long and courageous journey with his health.
Ted was the devoted husband and high school sweetheart of Rae (nee Dunn), having spent 53 wonderful years together. Loving father to Michelle Olive-Hayes (Logan), Ted (Sara), and the late Kylie-Rose. He was the proud grandfather of Quinn, Cole, and Luca, who were the absolute light of his life. He was especially grateful to have met his newest grandson just two weeks ago, a moment he treasured deeply.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Bertha Olive, and his parents-in-law, Glenn and Mona Dunn. He was a dear brother to Jimmy (late Sharon), Randee (late Colette), the late Roseanna MacGillivary (Ray), Teresa Belanger (Johnnie), Bev Fraser (late Al), Mike (Susan), and Billy (Dot). He was also a cherished brother-in-law to the late Lesley Scherback (late Terry), Christine Dunn-Paci (Frank), Terri Dunn, Steve Dunn (Caterina), and Jeff Dunn (Liz), and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ted built a long and meaningful career with IG Wealth Management, one he carried out with pride, integrity, and genuine care for others. To many, he was not only an advisor, but a steady presence and a trusted friend.
Ted truly loved life and was a very active person - he loved all sports and had a competitive spirit. He approached the world with curiosity, always asking questions with genuine enthusiasm. He found joy in simple things: conversation, laughter, being outdoors, and time spent together. He had a natural warmth that drew people in, and a sense of humor that could lighten even the heaviest moments.
In his final hours, he did what he had always done, he took care of us. There were tears, laughter, and long cuddles with his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Donnelly Family for their friendship and love over the years. The family would like to express their gratitude to SAH emergency department, the nurses and doctors on 3C & ICU, as well as Ted’s many specialists at SAH and St Mike’s Hospital for their care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522). Visitation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, funeral service to begin at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. Bruce McLeish. The family extends an invitation following graveside service for a Celebration of Life in the Delta Ballroom (208 St. Mary’s River Dr.) beginning at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations (payable by cheque or online) to the Diabetes Canada or the Sault Area Hospital Foundation are appreciated.
Ted left this world with courage, dignity, love, and the same spirit that defined his life. He will be missed more than words can say and remembered always for the beautiful life he gave us. We invite you to share your memories of Ted with his wife and children, so they can continue to share his story with his grandchildren for years to come. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Olive family.
