I was so saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. Your dad was a great man and I feel so fortunate to have known him. May you always find comfort in the amazing memories you made together. Thinking of all you.

My condolences to the Ferguson family. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have known Bill during my high school years as a student from 1978 to 1983. It was an outstanding high school with an exceptionally impressive collection of teachers, coaches, mentors and volunteers. 

Bill was a great physical education teacher and a tough but fair coach and sounding board for school, sports and life.  He and Jack (and others) were always well prepared on the field and contributed countless volunteer hours to help young men find their way through Wolverines football and beyond. I only realized later in life the huge commitment that teachers like Bill made once I became a parent and coach myself.

I will always remember his smile, quick wit, sarcasm and look on the field or in the gym that made me think “I’d better try harder” and push things to the next level.

In January, I had the incredible fortune of seeing Bill again and meeting his lovely wife Alexis at Batchawana. I am glad I took the time and shared those special few hours with family stories, pictures of our children and to relive football glory days with the two of them.

Special fond memories and much gratitude to a man who gave so much for his community, students and teams.

I was sad to read that you lost your dad this past week.  Losing your parents in such a short period is heartbreaking.  I hope someday that tears turn into smiles when you think about your mom and dad.

Bill and I (along with numerous others) were teammates on SCI’s Wildcat teams of the early ‘60’s. Although Bill was not the largest member of those teams, his mental toughness is the first attribute that springs to mind when I look back. His competitive attitude coupled with this indefatigable willingness to take on all challengers made a formidable force...and his hearty laugh only balanced his competitive gifts.

To his family, my sincere condolences on your loss...l trust Bill left you with some of his attributes.

Bill was reunited with his recently departed wife and best friend of 51 years, Alexis Ferguson on Friday, November 2, 2018 at noon. Bill will be deeply missed forever by his daughter Liz (Marcel) and son Jon (Teresa). “Gumpy” shared a special bond with his grandchildren Josi, late Jenna, Maddi, Gavin and Mya and will be eternally cherished in their hearts. Bill is predeceased by his mother Elsie Ellis and brothers Garry and Steve. He is survived by his older brother Brian and younger sister Paula Ellis.
