MORTON, William "Bill" Robert – With great sadness, the family of William “Bill” Robert Morton announces his passing on Friday, September 19, 2025 in his 92nd year at the Sault Area Hospital with his family by his side.
He was the loving husband of Phyllis (nee Novitski) for 69 years. Cherished father of Cheryl Dinsdale (Greg), Heather and Janice (Neil Taylor). Special grandfather of Willow, Jasmine and Derek. Predeceased by his parents Alvin and Margaret Morton, and his in-laws Mary and John Novitski. Also predeceased by sister Ruth Lamoureux (Gus), brothers John and Dennis and sister-in-law Susan Novitski. He is survived by sisters-in-law Pat Morton (late Dennis), Judy Miron (late Ray) and Pat Novitski (late Oryst). Also much loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was born in Richard’s Landing, St. Joseph Island on Thursday, October 19, 1933. He moved to Sault Ste. Marie and had a long career at the PUC. Bill was very involved in his community, including being a member of the Elks Lodge as Exalted Ruler and Lakeshore Kiwanis Club as Lieutenant Governor. Over the years, he was involved in many of their fundraising activities. He was a very active member of St. Luke’s Cathedral, where he was sidesman and always willing to lend a helping hand. Bill was also a hunter, fisherman and enthusiastic golfer. He always loved to tell a joke or story to anyone who would listen. He was a loving and generous man who gladly helped anyone who needed him. He had a grin that would make anyone smile. He will be missed by all who knew him.
We would like to thank the nursing staff of 3A, Dr. Buehner and Dr. Costain for their exceptional care. Bill was also very appreciative of the compassionate care provided by his many PSW’s over the years who he thanked every time they came.
Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Luke’s Cathedral (160 Brock Street) on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:45 pm, service to follow at 3:00 pm, Rev. Jay Koyle officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made payable online or by cheque to St. Luke’s Cathedral or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Morton family.
