

Alton Gelon Red Davis, 75, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan 2, 2014 at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Egypt, Ga., and was a veteran having served in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sarah and Jeff E. Davis; a brother, George Davis and a nephew Robbie Ryan.. Red was a devoted, loving father and husband. He served in the US. Navy; worked in the construction industry for over 50 years and retired in 2005 from R. B. Baker Construction. In 2004, he was inducted into the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid fisherman and cat lover. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Wylette Roberts Davis, children Karen Cote (Jon), Cindy Gills (Randy), Beth Stapleton, Dr. Joseph Davis (Katie) and Audrey Matthews (Larry); brothers Wilfred David and E. J. Davis; sister Hildreth Collum; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 3 p.m. Saturday at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Funeral Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Remembrances: may be given to Hospice Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406, or the Nancy and J.C. Lewis Cancer Center, 5353 Reynolds Street, Savannah, Ga 31405.
