

Gladys Estelle Newsome, 87, of Savannah, passed away on Dec. 5, 2012 at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Savannah on March 2, 1925. Gladys was the youngest of seven children born to John and Ola Mae Newsome. Gladys attended Charles Ellis School and Richard Arnold High School. She went on to attend Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, AL. Later she continued her education by taking Child Evangelism courses at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Gladys ran and operated Tot's Wonderland Kindergarten for about 25 years. After selling the kindergarten she and Ann Lewis worked with Christian Children's Crusades in five southeastern states. Gladys never had any children of her own but she graciously shared and devoted her life to teaching children. She worked with numerous local churches in children's ministry in the Savannah area over the years, the latest being the Southside Assembly of God. Gladys loved her animals, her dogs, cats and birds. She was always concerned about their care. She never found herself lonely, she was always talking with them and pampering them. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She has many faithful and devoted friends that she has made over the years that she loved. Her life was an exemplary example of faith in God, devotion to her family and friends, and the abundant blessings she received during her life.
