

He was born August 13, 1928 in Savannah, Ga., and had lived in Savannah all his life. He was the son of James Carl Veale, Sr., and Elizabeth Webb Veale Ivey.
He was formerly a member of Bull Street Baptist church, Immanuel Baptist Church, and for the last 40 plus years, was a member of White Bluff United Methodist church.
He became a Mason, June 1973, than advanced to the Scottish Rite Consistory – Valley of Savannah, and then Alee Shrine Temple. He was active in the Royal Order of the Jesters, and s served as Parade Marshall for Alee Temple Shriners for more than 15 years, including 2 South Eastern Sessions.
Carl was a graduate of Savannah High School, Class of 1946, attended Clemson College and Armstrong State College.
He joined the U.S. Marines in September, 1946, was trained at Parris Island, S.C., and served at Camp Lejeune, NC, Brunswick Naval Air Station, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant at Jacksonville Naval Air Station September, 1948.
He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for thirty six years, retiring in May 1987.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Carl Veale, Sr., his mother, Elizabeth Veale Ivey, and a brother, Richard Belton Veale.
He is survived by his wife of 41 plus years, Nell Purcell Lynn Veale, 2 daughters ,including Diane Veale Jervis of Savannah, Ga. ; a step daughter, Brenda Lynn Mehlhorn of Savannah, GA; 2 stepsons, David “Buddy” Lynn (Ginny) of Riverside, Connecticut, and Bob Lynn of Chicago, Illinois; 7 grandchildren, including Richie Jervis, (Kelly), Amy Donahue (Stephen), Alexandra (Lexie) Lynn and Olivia Lynn, 3 great grandchildren, Caroline Jervis and Meredith Jervis and Owen Donahue; 2 brothers, Erwin Olin Veale Sr. of Savannah, Ga., and John B. Ivey,Jr. a sister, Gail Ivey Plaxico of San Antonio, Texas, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel
Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Services: 11 am Friday at White Bluff United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Haney, officiating.
Interment: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Masonic Graveside Services.
