Lovick Pierce “Hank” Holloway, 88, of Savannah, GA, passed away November 9, 2010, surrounded by his family under the loving care of Hospice Savannah and caregivers in his home. He was born Dec 2, 1921 in Arlington, GA to the late Rev. Percy Thomas Holloway and the late Lilly Mae Bozeman Holloway. Lovick was a member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church and most recently Isle of Hope United Methodist Church where his father was a former pastor.
Lovick graduated from Claxton High School in 1941 and was the “hero” of their football team. He served in the US Navy on the USS Niblack during World War II from 1942-1945. After the war he began working for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, GA from 1945-1975. After retirement from the Corps he worked as a checker for the ILA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Hazel Walker Holloway of Savannah, his daughter Teresa and son-in-law Robert A. Keesecker of Mesquite, TX; daughter Rebecca (Becky) and son-in-law Wayne A. Prosser of Sautee-Nacoochee, GA; daughter Cindy and son-in-law Thomas (Tommy) W. Richardson, Jr., of Evansville, IN; 4 granddaughters, Angela Keesecker Rupert and husband Chris of Garland, TX; Kristen Keesecker of Pittsburgh, PA; Cortney Green and husband Kim of Carmel, IN: Ashley Richardson of Evansville, IN; 2 grandsons, Justin Prosser and wife Angela of Greenville, SC; and Greg Prosser of Summerville, SC; 7 great-grandchildren, Christin, Gillian, Madison, Mackenzie, Zachary, Kylie and Tyler, and several nieces and nephews.
As the song implies, he’d go to the garden alone while the dew was still on the roses and stay in his garden till the night around him was closing. He had a green thumb and raised many beautiful flowers. We are reminded in 1st Corinthians: “As the seed must die in order to become a living plant, we too must die in order to enter the kingdom of eternal life.
You will be missed more than you will ever know.
