

Phyllis Dotson Goethe, 74, of Hoschton, GA, died September 20, 2011. She was born December 9, 1936 in Asheville, NC, the daughter of the late D. B. and Mary T. Dotson. She was the eldest of 2 siblings.
She graduated from Chicora High School in North Charleston in 1954. On July 23, 1954, she married Robert W. Goethe, who survives.
Phyllis taught kindergarten at John Wesley Methodist and Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston, SC for many years. She also taught various Sunday School classes and worked with the Children’s Choir. Additionally, she was a member of the Adult Choir and participated in various plays and dramas in Charleston. In 1975, she relocated with her family to Savannah, GA. She taught music at Sonshine Learning Center and worked with the Children’s Choir at Calvary Temple in Savannah. She also was a member of the Adult Choir and Handbell Choir.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Robert W. Goethe of Hoschton, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Terri Goethe of Acworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Tom Shilling of Spartanburg, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Nancy Goethe of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Lawton Goethe of Charlottesville, VA; Joshua Hambrick of Atlanta, GA; Leslie Anne Shilling of Nashville, TN; William Goethe of Savannah, GA; Kellie Shilling of Charleston, SC; David Hambrick of Acworth, GA; Kristen Goethe of Dallas, GA; Taylor Shilling of Spartanburg, SC; Ryan Goethe of Dallas, GA; brother and sister-in-law, William H. (Bud) and Laura Dotson of Fairview, NC as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
