

William Benjamin Carter, Jr., 79, of Savannah Ga., died Tuesday, Jan 31, 2012 at Shadowmoss Plantation Alzheimer’s & Memory Care Savannah. He was born in Rapidan, Virginia, and was retired from the US Air Force, after 20 years of service, as a TSgt, and Crew Chief. He then went to work as a welder for Derst Baking Company, where he retired with 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by sons Michael William Carter and Daniel Allen Carter.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta Joann McKee Carter, of Richmond Hill, Ga; 3 sons, David John Carter of Asheville, NC; Mark Douglas Carter (Kim) of Savannah, Ga; Paul Brian Carter (Melony) of Richmond Hill, Ga., and a daughter, Linda Carter Bergman (Mike) of Richmond Hill, Ga; 2 sisters, Margaret Embry (Newman) of Stafford, Virginia and Theada Dofflemoyer of Culpepper, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Funeral Services following at 3pm with Rev. Mark Snavly officiating. Interment will be held at 11am on Monday at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
