One of my fondest memories of Nonno was in those lighthearted days where he would tell me stories of back home in Italy in his beloved village of Santo Stefano. He would recall the days of his childhood on the farm herding sheep with his grandfather and the special meals his grandmother would prepare for them after a long days of hard work. Retelling stories of how he would have to defend against wolves and how he would get scolded when they had lost a few sheep. He would tell me of him and his friends playing in the barns and of how one time he had broken his arm. He would tell me of the warm summer nights and the cold winter days and the ways in which they survived back in troubled times. He had told of his adventures leaving Italy at seventeen and the journey of sailing towards a better life in Canada. And that not everyone on the boat had made it across but perished at sea. Nonno would proudly tell me of how he got his start in Timmins and made his way to Toronto and the Carpenters Union Local 27 . It was then when telling me these stories, I would see the slightest turn of a grin and the sparkle behind his eyes. It was then that our hearts would connect from one generation to the next. It is now that I yearn to hear more of my Nonno’s stories. I will remember the days we had spent and the memories shared near and dear to my heart. I will remember him telling me he had an ugly smile when in fact he had a great one. I will remember the days of him picking me up after school in his classic white Crown Victoria car asking what we would should have as an afternoon snack. I will remember all the times we sat in the garage listening to the Italian radio station while he would explain his tools of the trade. And I will remember always our last days together, the last hours we spent side by side and the soft whisper of I love you.

I will love you Nonno forever and always, Santina.

It is with deep sadness we mourn the loss of a gentle spirit.  Antonio, was a kind and considerate older cousin to my father Ettorino "Eddie" Tatone -  My father often shared stories of the many tricks of the carpentry trade Antonio shared with him .  Although Eddie passed recently, he spoke fondly  of growing up with Antonio- right to the end, with the all the effort Antonio made to offer spiritual support- My dad  cherished his visits and considerate ways during his last days... I am sure they are both in heaven together sharing a smile, a glass of wine and reminiscing of family and their beloved Santo Stefano! Dear Zia Anna, cousins Annalisa, Orlando, Mauro and Tony Jr. (and spouses and families), and of course my dear mom Ida and my brothers (and spouses and families), sincerest condolences.  I loved Zio so much and was happy to spend precious moments with him merely a few hours before his passing.  By the time I reached home I got the call.  I grew up around Nonna and Nonno's kitchen table where love was always being served and Zio was often there, delivering fresh groceries from the butcher and Loblaws.  Nonna and my mom would cook an awesome Italian meal and Nonno would pour his exceptional homemade Italian wine.  I have wonderful memories with Zia, my dad, brothers and cousins.  I have pictures but unfortunately I just moved yesterday and am unable to find them but will once I get settled.  I will share then.  Zio, I said bye and I'll come see you again, my last words to you, and you know I will keep my promise!  Until we meet again.  Love, Juanita and family. 🫶🏼🙋‍♀️

Sentite condoglianze per la morta di vostro gentile Marito, Papa, Nonno, Zio, Fratello, Cugino e Amico. Ci sentiamo la perta con voi. Coraggio, pazienza, amore, feda e esperanza.
