Constance Jane “Connie” Belfon (nee O’Hara), 64, passed away peacefully in Toronto on December 30th after a courageous battle with cancer. A proud Sudbarian, Connie spent a lively stint in Manhattan before returning to Canada and settling in Toronto, where she met her devoted husband, Don, in 1979.
Connie trained as a nurse and dedicated 35 years of her life to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, ultimately retiring as the Bargaining Unit President for Local 80 of the Ontario Nurses’ Association. Tirelessly championing her fellow nurses, she organized major Nursing Week celebrations and earned the admiration of colleagues across the hospital and beyond. She became a mother in 1992, completing their family until her son, Donald, married Amalie this year—a wedding Connie proudly attended.
Connie cherished her beloved cottage, Windswept, on the French River, where sun-soaked days and evenings of laughter and red red wine with family and friends fueled her generous spirit. She would be deeply proud of the constant outpouring of love and gratitude from the many friends, family, nurses, and colleagues who surrounded her. Everyone who met Connie was touched by her unshakeable kindness, radiant laugh, and abiding affection.
She is survived by her loving husband Don, her son Donald and daughter-in-law Amalie, and her adored pup Louie. She will be deeply missed by her mother Gail, siblings Kelly and John (Heather), her beloved nieces Carli (Jake) and Raili (Charlie), her parents-in-law Ted and Lorna, and her many cousins. Predeceased by her father Robert, Connie leaves behind a wide circle of friends and extended family who will forever cherish her memory and the joy she brought into their lives.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful palliative care team at Sunnybrook (K1 Central) for their unwavering compassion and support.
A visitation for Connie will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8.
