Born and raised in Amherstburg, Ontario on his family's farm, he relocated to Toronto for work after graduating from Assumption University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Science in 1963.
In Toronto, he led a steady and successful career as a chemist in the Paint, Coating and Adhesive Manufacturing Industry during which time he contributed to Research and Development, later focusing on Health and Safety. Notably, he held tenure at Tremco for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 2000.
For Dale, retirement was an opportunity to work harder, only now on his passions. His love for gardening saw his backyard crops flourish. His compulsion for canning saw his store of preserves grow exponentially. His interest in genealogy saw his relatives trace their lineage back to the 1600s.
More importantly, it was in Toronto that he forged so many of his lifelong friendships and started his own family; friends to travel the world with and a family he could build the world for. It was his passion for these people that really bloomed in his retirement.
At 81 years, he passed away in the early hours of June 2, 2023 at home in Scarborough after a brief battle with lymphoma.
He will be remembered by his co-workers for his attention to detail and inspiring work ethic, which permeated all aspects of his life.
He will be remembered by his neighbours for his endless generosity and kindness; not to mention his backyard amusement park, snow sculptures and extensive garden.
He will be remembered by his friends for his intelligence, sense of humour, and adventurous spirit.
He will be remembered by his family for his stoicism and unfailing ability to provide; not just financial security, but also a life full of enrichment.
He will be remembered by all for his smile.
Dale will be missed very much.
Dale leaves behind his son, Roy, and stepdaughter, Zofia, whom he raised as his own. He leaves behind their families, including Roy's wife, Laura, Zofia's husband, Daniel, and their two children, Natasza and Veronika. He also leaves behind countless friends.
He is pre-deceased by his father, Norman (1993), mother, Maria (1997), sister, Elaine (1963), and brother, Bernard (1993).
