David Theodore Butts, affectionately known as “DT”, was born in Aruba, grew up in Guyana, and immigrated to Canada in the 70’s. David passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley; sons, Neil and Mark; sisters, Rosana (Andrew), Carmelita (James), Janet (Bonny), Ruth (Krishna); brothers Bernie (Maggie), Don; many nieces and nephews, and loving companion, Sandy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Florence and Alfred, brother Richard, sister Anita and wife Jane.
David was an accomplished appliance technician, so much of an expert that you can call him with a problem and he knew exactly what it was instantly, a true craftsman. He actively volunteered delivering daffodils for the Canadian Cancer Society and was awarded a commemorative member after 20 years of volunteer service.
He retired from his own company, BT Appliance Service after 45 years, where he accumulated roughly 3,000 rolls of black electrical tape during the course of his career (which he used for everything from open wounds to “Don’t use this button” covers).
David loved fishing, boating, hiking, dancing, music, bird watching, road trips and above all, he absolutely loved the company of his family.
He was a renowned party host and would have some incredible moves dancing with his sister Ruth. Very often he would be the life of the party. He was also an active learner and really loved coming across new facts about the world we live in. Nearly everyday, he read articles, National Geographic and routinely watched documentaries, specifically about snakes.
David died knowing that Sweet Home Alabama was his favourite song ever and that his daily watched youtuber, Denny, gave him an incredible shoutout on his last birthday.
Tremendous and heartfelt thanks goes to Sandy, his sisters, brothers, daughter and son, who provided not only family love, but also a peaceful and compassionate environment during his transition from this life to the next.
Revelation 21:4 - “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
