

The family announces with deep sadness the passing of Monica Banfield on Friday August 2, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at North York General Hospital at 94 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, George Banfield and her infant daughter, Simone.
She leaves to mourn her sister, Gloria (Freddie), her children, Beth, Rosemarie and Graeme (Tracey), stepchildren Rosamund, Stephanie and Grace. Grandma to Marielle, Giselle, Gabriella and Samantha. GG to Nevaeh.
Mom was born in Guyana on February 20, 1930 and worked with the British Government.
She moved to Grenada to be with the love of her life and brought up her children there. She pursued her love of teaching at elementary schools and became the Principal of St. Mary’s School.
She immigrated to Toronto in 1981 with her family and called Canada home. She retired from Shoppers Drug Mart to look after her first 2 granddaughters and nurtured them while doing crafts and enjoying nature, using her imagination to enrich their lives.
Mom was a treasure. We will keep her memories alive, speak of her often, remember her stories and make her a part of our celebrations. Her spirit will live on in all of us.
Visitation will be held at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East on Tuesday, August 13 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral service on Wednesday, August 14 at 11am at the Chapel at Paul O’Connor followed by reception then Burial at Highland Memory Gardens, 33 Memory Gardens Lane, Toronto at 2:30pm.
