Carmelo J. Todaro

Carmelo J. Todaro, a longtime resident of Scarsdale, passed away peacefully at his home on August 15, 2021. Carmelo, age 99, was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Maria Felicia Liggio, and was a devoted father and loving grandfather.

Carmelo was born on August 27, 1921, in Manhattan to Giuseppina and Natale Todaro. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1939 and went on to study at CCNY and Manhattan College. He graduated from Indiana University Dental School in 1946 and served in the US Army Air Force as a hospital dentist at various air bases around the world. Carmelo achieved the rank of Captain. In July of 1949, he opened his own dental practice in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, an office he maintained for over 40 years. In his retirement he was an avid reader, portrait painter and model ship builder.

Carmelo is survived by his children: Joseph (Marlene), Maria Pizzolato (Salvatore), John (Tammy) and Charles. He dearly loved his grandchildren: Nicole, Giannella, Peter, Christina, Natalie, Charlie, and Anita. Carmelo will be remembered as a loving and dedicated father and grandfather.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Friday August 20, 2021, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx NY. Visitation Thursday August 19, 2021, from 4-7 pm at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, Scarsdale, NY.
