Catherine L. Burke

Catherine, or as her family called her “Gigi,” was born on August 29, 1913 to Katherine (Farrell) Joseph and Harmon A. Joseph in Manhattan. She was beloved by all who knew her and leaves behind family and friends who will miss her laughter and her sense of humor.

Catherine attended Our Lady of Lourdes School, School of the Holy Child, College of Mt. St. Vincent in Riverdale and Katherine Gibbs.

Catherine married Raymond J. Burke in May, 1938 and had three children, Katherine (Burke) Murphy, Raymond J. Burke, Jr., and Richard E. Burke.

Prior to Catherine and Ray moving to Palm Beach, the family resided in Scarsdale, New York.

In addition to her children and their spouses, Catherine leaves behind seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren

Her husband, who was a founding partner of the admiralty law firm Burke & Parsons located in New York City, died in 1994 after fifty-six years of marriage.

Catherine was a member of various clubs including the Everglades Club, the Beach Club of Palm Beach, the Sailfish Club, the Metropolitan Club of New York City, the Ladies of Charity of New York, and the Scarsdale Golf Club. She was also a member of St. Edward's Church and a lifetime member of the Noreen McKeen Guild.

She spent her final years at the Noreen McKeen Residence.

Family & Friends may visit Friday from 4-7PM at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes Scarsdale, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday March11, 2017 at 9:45AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale, NY. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.

In lieu of flowers, Catherine’s family asks that donations be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.
