She was born on November 17, 1931.
Cynthia developed a love of theater at a young age. She acted in plays at her alma mater, Columbus H. S. in the Bronx, alongside her classmate Anna Italiano, who went on to international stardom under the name Anne Bancroft. Upon retirement, her love for the theater continued as evidenced by her monthly trips to see Broadway shows with her Westchester Chapter of retired teacher members and her son Marc. Her love of traveling developed through journeys her sister Alice took her on. Alice took her to ski in the Laurentian Mountains in Canada and to a dude ranch in Wyoming. One of her most memorable trips was when she took her son Marc to Italy to see the Uffizi Museum in Florence.
She taught in the NYC high schools for more than 25 years and was much beloved by her students. She had a heart of gold and always treated everyone with respect and would lend emotional support to anyone that was hurting. Her students felt safe in using her as a confidante and her advice was always realistic and on target. This support also extended to friends and family. When her son Marc died of covid she was devastated but she derived much comfort by reaching out to his close friends. By keeping in regular contact with them she felt she still had a part of Marc with her. She always had a positive outlook and whomever she had contact with always felt she was someone they could trust. She may have been 94 but she was still able to help others by her presence in their lives.
She was predeceased by her two children Marc and Kim, her two sisters Alice Van Veen and Sylvia Cohen, her brother Lawrence Sheinhut and her nephew Michael Cohen.
