

Born on March 11, 1927, in Richmond, Virginia, to Raymond Daniel Saxe, Sr. and Capitola Stone Saxe, he grew up in Winchester, Virginia. He graduated from John Handley High School in 1945 and spent a year in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman, 1st Class. After his military service, he attended the University of Virginia on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1952 with both a B.A. and an L.L.B. Upon graduation, he moved to New York where he joined the law firm of Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller. After becoming a partner at Dunnington, he left that firm in 1958 to work for Bessemer Securities Corporation, where he eventually became Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel. He was a member of both the New York State Bar and the Virginia State Bar. He retired from Bessemer in 1991.
Although he was a resident of White Plains at the time of his death, he lived for many years in Scarsdale, New York. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Scarsdale Fire Department, and he also served on the Scarsdale Board of Architectural Review. He was married in 1954 to JoAn Teetor; they were divorced in 1983. He is survived by his brother, James P. Saxe of Westborough, Massachusetts; his son, Raymond D. Saxe III, of Rye Brook, New York; and his daughter, Emily Saxe Nydam, of Encinitas, California; as well as by five grandchildren. His friends and family knew him as a loving brother, father and grandfather, as an elegant southern gentleman, and as a consummate host. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, 6 Greenacres Avenue, Scarsdale, New York, 10583, on Tuesday, November 29, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, or to University of Virginia Law School Foundation, 580 Massie Road, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22903.
