Born in Manhattan on August 3, 1932, Dolores devoted her life to education, family, and community. A proud graduate of Hunter College, she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1954 and her master’s degree in education in 1960. She went on to teach for nearly seven decades—first at Dodge Vocational High School and later as an Adjunct Professor at Bronx Community College—touching thousands of lives with her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in her students. Her work earned numerous recognitions, including a Citation of Merit from the Bronx Borough President in 1995.
On August 21, 1955, Dolores married the love of her life, Armando Florio. Their marriage—rooted in deep affection, faith, and devotion—endured until Armando’s passing in 1991. Dolores found her greatest joy in time spent with her family: her husband, her sister and lifelong best friend Josephine, and her children, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. She also cherished travel, books, movies, laughter, and long conversations with her family and friends.
Dolores is survived by her sons Robert, Gary, Mark, and Gregory; grandchildren Andrew, Gregory Armando, Avery, Kasey, and Jamie; niece Mary Ellen; nephews Larry and Richard Pucillo; and many extended family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents, Carmella and Joseph Zanghi; her beloved husband Armando; and her cherished sister Josephine.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on December 12, 2025 at Edwin L. Bennet Funeral Home in Scarsdale, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Scarsdale, with burial to follow at The Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The V Foundation for Cancer Research (www.v.org) in Dolores’s memory.
Her grace, warmth, and quiet strength will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know and love her.
