Hildegard “Hilde” Maria Keane, born on April 26, 1939 in Braunschweig, Germany to Adam and Maria Louise Klotz passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2016. Hilde, her parents and younger sister, Elisabeth, emigrated in 1954 to the U.S., residing in the Parkchester section of the Bronx. She graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and had a successful career as a computer programmer for twenty years at Shell Oil and Pepsico, before turning full-time to her greatest passion—mother, grandmother and wife. She and her loving husband, Frank Keane, were long-time residents of Scarsdale, and Bondville, VT. She was the beloved mother of daughters Jenny Keane and fiancé Chris McStay, and Catherine “Katie Keane” Brough and husband William. She found tremendous joy in her grandchildren, Julia, Ryan and Caelyn Brough, who adored their “Oma.” She is also survived by her dear sister, Elisabeth Uebel, of Tucson, AZ. Hilde loved to cook, garden, travel, knit, listen to classical music, read, and above all, spend time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was well known by neighbors on Scarsdale’s streets, walking golden retrievers Viking and then Maxwell, and a faithful parishioner of St. Pius X Church. Hilde was incredibly thoughtful, caring, determined, unique, and will forever and always be a part of us.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale. A Memorial Mass will be conducted on Thursday, December 22 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church also in Scarsdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Hilde’s name to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
