It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of James Hillman. Last evening James, 59 years old, passed away at White Plains Hospital after a short illness. James, affectionately known as “Jimmy” by his family, housemates, staff and friends, started receiving services from Arc of Westchester in 1977 and shortly after became a resident. During his time as a beloved member of the Arc family, Jimmy participated in the Greenridge Day Program and lived in various agency residences, most recently, the Dobbs Ferry residence in Greenburg, NY. He loved listening to music on his iPod and going to shows at the Radio City Music Hall. Jimmy was very close to his family including his father Donald, stepmother Enid and brother Peter. He will be missed by his housemates at Dobbs Ferry and friends at Greenridge, as well as, the many employees who came to know and care about Jimmy over the years. Jimmy will be remembered for his sweet, fun-loving and sensitive nature, his fondness for parties, telling jokes, journal writing, and for giving others compliments.
James Sherwin Hillman age 59 of Dobbs Ferry and Scarsdale, N. Y., died on August 13, 2015 at White Plains Hospital, N.Y. of complications from a fall. He was predeceased by his loving mother, Sara Jane Hillman and adoring nephew Gregory S. Hillman. He is survived by his loving father Donald S. Hillman, and stepmother, Enid, of Scarsdale, N.Y.; his devoted brother, Peter N. Hillman (Lisa), of Darien, CT; his adoring nephews, Preston and Spencer Hillman and niece Amanda Hillman; and stepsister Jennifer Oberstein. Jimmy suffered brain damage at birth, and bravely fought subsequent health battles. Nevertheless, gifted with enthusiasm, curiosity, a wonderful memory, kindness, courage, love for life and loyalty, Jimmy lived a remarkable life to his fullest potential and left everlasting loving impressions on all who knew him. The family is particularly grateful to Jimmy’s care providers at the ARC of Westchester; he was a beloved member of the ARC family since 1977.
The burial will be private. A memorial service will be scheduled in the fall. The family would be most appreciative of any donations to the ARC of Westchester Foundation, 265 Saw Mill River Road, Hawthorne, NY 10532 in memory of James S. Hillman. Arrangements by Edwin L.
