

James Inzerillo of Scarsdale, New York died on July 21 at the age of 91. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 28, 1923, one of six children of Giovanna and Antonino Inzerillo. After graduating from high school, he joined the National Guard. His unit was nationalized, and when the United States entered World War II, his unit was the first to be sent overseas. In January 1942, his unit set sail for the South Pacific where he served for 3 1/2 years, fighting in Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, and the Philippines, returning to the United States in June of 1945. Upon returning home, he entered college and earned a degree in Accounting. After working for four years at the Joseph Frogatt & Company certified public accounting firm, he accepted a position with the American Mutual Reinsurance Co. In 1956, he joined the Munich Reinsurance Company, U.S. Branch, as Vice President, and in 1957 he became President. After the Munich Reinsurance Company's operation in the United States was reorganized in 1975, he became President of Munich American Reinsurance Company, a position he held until his retirement on January 1, 1989. He was CEO of all U.S. subsidiaries, and was an active board member of many of the insurance industry's associations. He was also Chairman of the International Insurance Society and the International Insurance Hall of Fame, and was a Trustee of the Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education and the College of Insurance of New York. He was a Knight of Malta. His daughter Jean, son-in-law Nicholas Savoye and his grandchildren Kristin and Mark Savoye survive him. His wife Frances and son Anthony predeceased him.
Visiting hours will take place on Friday, July 25, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26 at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
