Janet Marie Flanigan

Janet Marie Flanigan passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on November 13, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio, she celebrated her 89th birthday just days before her passing. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated educator, Janet will always be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and exuberance.

Janet was married to her devoted husband, Michael Flanigan, for nearly 68 years. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Sharon, Tracy, and Mike (Dyana). She was also the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren (Heidi, Julie, David, Becky, Taylor, Lane, and Grace) and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and LaVera Davis, and sister Betty Fitch.

Having earned graduate and undergraduate degrees in Education from the University of Toledo, Janet devoted much of her life to teaching and school counseling. Her passion for helping others guided her career and life, impacting the lives of countless students over the years. She was a compassionate listener, a wise advisor, and a true advocate for those in need. In her free time, Janet had a passion for gardening, traveling to new places with her husband, and hosting friends and family for dinner parties.

Janet and Mike spent many cherished years in Northern Michigan where she and her family created countless memories making s’mores and water skiing on Guthrie Lake. Janet could often be found on a beach chair with her latest book or crossword puzzle. She also spent winters in Siesta Key and Sarasota, Florida, enjoying golden hour sunsets overlooking the water.

Janet's family and friends will remember her for her unwavering love, sharp mind, and infectious sense of humor. She was a pillar of strength and grace, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and the many people she touched during her lifetime.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered support during this difficult time.
