January 30, 1929 – February 9, 2026
Jean Dianna Caracciolo (née Filice), age 97, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026. A resident of Scarsdale for over 50 years, Jean lived an extraordinary life defined by devotion to family and an unwavering generosity of spirit.
Born on January 30, 1929, in the Bronx, NY, Jean was the beloved daughter of Umile and Teresa (née DeRose) Filice. She grew up in Mount Vernon, where she began planting the seeds of the vibrant, welcoming life she would build for her own family and community.
On September 25, 1949, she married the love of her life, Domenic Caracciolo. Their firstborn son, Carl, was born in 1950. Carl predeceased her in 1990. Domenic predeceased her in 1999. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Frank and John, and her sister, Evelyn.
Jean is survived by her devoted daughter, Victoria “Vicki” Lucia; her granddaughter, Jennifer (James); her cherished great-grandson, Luca; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jean lived with what can only be described as a radical kindness. She did not simply open her door, she opened her life. Widely known as the best cook in her family, her traditional Italian meals were never just about food; they were her way of saying, you belong here. Her home was the pulse of the neighborhood, powered by her tireless energy and boundless hospitality. From serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Brownie Leader to teaching Catechism at St. Ursula, Jean didn’t just watch her community grow, she helped build it. She stood as a shield for her family, ensuring that her children felt safe, seen, and deeply cherished.
Someone who loves that loudly never truly fades away. She lives on in the recipes she shared and the way she made a stranger feel like family in an instant. She was a woman who did not just see people, she welcomed them into joy.
While her passing leaves immense grief, her light is reflected in the countless lives she lifted. People like her leave an indelible mark on the soul. She will forever be loved and deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.
