Joan Teubl passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, February 01, 2017 surrounded by loving family members. Joan’s faith in Jesus was paramount in her life. She followed the words of Joshua “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” and raised her family, cared for her husband, and loved her friends accordingly.
Joan was greatly beloved by her husband Phil. Their 68-year marriage serves an example to all: they who lived out their vows, “to love and to cherish from this day forward… in sickness and in health, till death do us part.”
Joan was born in the Bronx in 1928 to the late Anthony (Tom) and Elena Tralongo. She and Phil were married Sept 26, 1948. Her only sister, Rosalie, and husband Gerald Mazzo predeceased her, as did Phil’s sister Peggy. Peggy’s husband George Lupul survives her.
She is survived by 2 wonderful daughters-in- law, Claudia & Linda, (and, of course, 2 sons, Bill & Bob)
She will be remembered affectionately by Rosemary & Joe Mazzo and George & Susan Lupul, her nieces and nephews, who were very dear to her heart.
Her 10 grandchildren, the love of her life, will miss their Nana greatly. Joan also was delighted to have 4 great-grandchildren (with more on the way!)
While in high school in Manhattan, Joan worked afternoons as a typist. She could type 140 words a minute, and -- for all you computer people -- she did it without errors – before autocorrect existed.
Joan worked for the Scarsdale Medical Group 25 years, and building on that foundation, she later worked with her son when he opened his medical office in 1999.
Joan was an active member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Westchester Square, Bronx, for 60 years, lending her enthusiastic support wherever needed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the “Cephas Program” (an after-school program for local children) at St Peter’s Church in the Bronx or to “St Peter’s Love Kitchen, a meal served to local people every Thursday.
Visiting hours will be at Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale from 4-8 on Friday, February 3. A graveside ceremony will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY at 11:00 Saturday Feb 4.
