Mary Rita O'hare

She is survived by her son Benjamin Patrick Brown, her mother Mary Rita Donleavy, her brother John Emmanuel O’Hare, Jr., her sister Jacqueline O’Hare Keber and her uncles J.P. Donleavy and T. J. Donleavy.

Marita graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, Ct., Manhattanville College, Purchase NY, attended Trinity College, Dublin, received an M.A. degree in art history from Hunter College and an M.B.A. degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Following working for the architect, Edward Larrabee Barnes, FAIA, she became Executive Director of the Architectural League in 1973, worked for the Vincent Astor Foundation restoring the Governor’s Mansion in Albany under Governor Mario Cuomo. She was director of development for the Archives of American Art, Historic Hudson Valley and subsequently worked at the The American Federation of Arts (AFA), The Bronx Botanical Gardens and for a time was director of Special Events at the Whitney Museum. She has spent the past 11 years as Executive Director of Development Greenwich Hospital, where her professional satisfaction was derived from using the power of philanthropy to help an institution she believed in to thrive and grow. She was looking forward in the future applying what she knew about fund raising and management to the advancement and celebration of the arts. She was a member of the Century Club in New York and a board member of the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation.
