Thomas was born in Brooklyn, NY to Margaret (Jennings) and Thomas. He was predeased by his sisters, Margaret (Honey) and Elizabeth (Betty), brothers in law, Walter Costello, Matthew Gaynor, Robert Gilman and Thomas Fitzpatrick and his beautiful wife Carol.
He is survived by his sisters Lorraine Gilman, Patricia Gaynor, his daughter and son-in-law, three adoring grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
Tom grew up in Brooklyn, attending Saint Matthew’s School and Parish and joined the Air Force in 1955. He was proud to have served his country and often recounted many stories of his days on the base in Germany. After his honorable discharge, Thomas completed accounting courses and was employed as an accountant at J. Walter Thompson and Memorial Sloan Kettering where he retired in 2002 after over 25 years of service.
While working at J. Walter Thompson, Tom met the love of his life, Carol (Grady). After a long courtship they wed on St. Patrick’s Day 1974. They settled in Yonkers, NY and joined Saint Barnabas Parish in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx.
Upon Carol’s death in 2008, he moved to Garth Road to be closer to his daughter, son-in-law Joe, and three grandchildren, Anabelle, Cecily and Joseph. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale. He attended mass daily and quickly became part of the Fatima community.
Tom lived simply, never needing anything more than God and family. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame football, talking walks, going to the track with his old friends from Brooklyn, searching for sales on Maxwell House Coffee (Columbian only), and having lengthy political “debates” with his “commie liberal” daughter.
Thomas cherished his grandchildren, he took every opportunity to be with them whether it was a trip to Coney Island or the dentist. He never missed a game or school event, and he spoiled with extra Christmas presents at the annual “Poppop” Christmas. They loved him unconditionally.
Tom also adored his sisters and many, many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family and was very proud of all of their various accomplishments. He made every effort to see them as often as possible. He always looked forward to the next family gathering.
He will by missed by so many.
