

Tom was born on April 1, 1947 in New York, NY to Frances and Wyllis Newcomb. He attended White Plains High School and Baldwin Wallace College and served with the Peace Corps in Cameroon. Thereafter, Tom attended General Theological Seminary and spent over 40 as an Episcopal priest. He began his ministry at St. Michael's in Charleston, SC and at Christ Church in Savannah, GA and spent 16 years leading St. Timothy's in Fairfield, CT. Most recently, Tom was Rector at St. James the Less in Scarsdale, NY before retiring in 2015. Tom also served as interim rector at St Martin’s in Harlem, NY in retirement.
Tom's ministry enriched the lives of many. He possessed a unique ability to foster a sense of community, fellowship and shared purpose among his parishioners. He ministered countless people in their most joyful and sorrowful moments, as well as in their everyday lives. Most importantly, Tom consistently shared a message of God's presence and love for all - in word and deed.
Tom took great delight in people - family, friends, parishioners, and fellow clergy. He developed lasting connections with folks from all walks of life. He was a captivating storyteller and a warm presence in any room.
Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lee Ann Newcomb, who he loved and greatly admired; his children and their spouses, Jonathan and Lisa, Christopher and Claudine, and Mary and Brian; and his grandchildren Rose, Sean, Cate, Ella, Peter, John, and Belle; as well as his brother Jody Newcomb.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2026 10AM at St. James the Less in Scarsdale, NY. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor and celebrate Tom’s life. Visitation Monday April 20, 2026
from 4-8 PM at St. James The Less Church.
