Born in Zanesville, Ohio, Vicki was the only child of Betty Westcott and Dwight Vandenbark. From an early age she was academically focused, developing a lifelong love of reading and mathematics. She moved to New York to attend Pace University, where she excelled in her studies before continuing on to Harvard Business School. It was there that she met her husband, Peter, beginning a marriage that would last a lifetime.
Vicki was a dedicated and passionate mother who always placed her son’s well-being at the center of her life. She had wide-ranging interests that reflected her curiosity and independent spirit — from history, music, and art to the discipline of martial arts, studying Aikido for many years. She found joy in walking, exploring new places, and immersing herself in books and ideas.
Those who knew Vicki will remember her as generous, kind, and fiercely independent. Her love of learning, her curiosity about the world, and her devotion to her family remain lasting gifts to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Mathias; her son, Mark Mathias; and her grandchildren, Caleb Mathias and Emma Mathias.
