Yoshiko Shiga, age 86, of Scarsdale, New York, passed away on Friday, March 22nd, 2024. She was born in Japan and moved to the United States at the age of 18, embarking on a remarkable journey that would leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
Yoshiko was a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School of Music. Her passion for music led her to a distinguished career, marked by her tenure as the manager of the Saito Kinen Orchestra, a role she fulfilled with unparalleled grace and expertise for over three decades. Handpicked by the internationally renowned conductor, Seiji Ozawa, Yoshiko's contributions to the orchestra were invaluable, shaping its legacy and impact on the global stage.
Despite her extensive travels and commitments overseas in Japan, Yoshiko remained a cherished resident of New York since the 1960s, where she cultivated deep connections within the community and continued to inspire others through her love for music. Yoshiko is survived by her son, Jason Hamilton, her daughter, Erika Hamilton, her daughter-in-law, Christine Hamilton, and her son-in-law, Gilbert Vazquez.
She was also the loving grandmother of Kenji (13), Jason (3), and Nima (3).
A memorial visitation for Yoshiko will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes, 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale, New York 10583.
