Amos J. Balsbaugh Jr.

Amos J. Balsbaugh, Jr., 81, of Myerstown, PA, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Yvonne M. Horst Balsbaugh with whom he was married to for 60 years. He was born in S. Lebanon Township, Lebanon County on August 7, 1933, a son of the late Amos J. Balsbaugh, Sr. and Beulah Daub Balsbaugh. Amos was founder and previous owner of Balsbaugh Insurance Co. in Schaefferstown and he also was involved in farming, both for 50 years. He was a 1951 graduate of South Lebanon High School. He was a member of the Midway Church of the Brethren where he sang in both the Senior and Men’s Choirs, served on several committees and was involved in mission trips for the Kentucky Housing Project. He was on the Agricultural Advisory Board with the Lebanon Valley National Bank/Fulton Bank; Board member at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, member of the Heidelberg Township Lions Club; and was involved for many years with Cedar Crest Young Farmers. He enjoyed sports and especially golfing. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Jeffrey L. Balsbaugh and wife Frances of Fredericksburg; Patty L. Landis and husband Michael of Lititz; Kim M. Deitzler and husband William of Schaefferstown; Scott A. Balsbaugh and wife Robin of Lebanon; Michael J. Balsbaugh and wife Rebecca of Schaefferstown; Todd E. Balsbaugh and wife Nicole of Annville; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister, Anna Kupp wife of Landis of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leah Ritter. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 7:00 PM in the Midway Church of the Brethren, 13 Evergreen Road, Lebanon, PA. There will be a time of sharing with the family following the memorial service in the Family Life Center of the church. Interment will be made privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brethren Relief Heifer Committee, c/o P. O. Box 323, Schaefferstown, PA 17088. Clauser Funeral Home, Inc. is handling his arrangements.
