

Phyllis A. Wasserman of Lebanon, formerly of Schaefferstown, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Juniper Village, Lebanon. She was the widow of the late Dr. Henry L. Wasserman, who died September 9, 2000. Phyllis was born August 15, 1932 in Kleinfeltersville; a daughter of the late Paul and Edna Shirk Levengood. She graduated in 1950 from Heidelberg Township High School and 1952 from the Lebanon Business College. Phyllis retired from the Lebanon VA Medical Center in 1988 as executive secretary to the Assistant Medical Director. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kleinfeltersville where she had been a Sunday school teacher, pianist for 50 years, member of the administrative board, and historian. She and her late husband had a great interest in helping school students financially in obtaining a higher education and established two scholarships; one at the University of Vermont Medical School, Burlington, VT and at ELCO High School, Myerstown, PA. She is survived by brothers, Lynn husband of Sue Levengood of Lebanon; Neal husband of Shirley Levengood of Lebanon; sisters, Sylvia Jane wife of Joseph Faust of Richland; Paula Kulp of Ephrata and 15 nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceeded in death by a brother Clark Levengood. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kleinfeltersville, PA, with a visitation beginning on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the church. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wasserman Scholarship Fund at ELCO High School, 180 Elco Drive, Myerstown, PA 17067 or Wasserman Scholarship, University of Vermont College of Medicine, Office of the Dean, Given Bldg., Burlington, VT 05405-0068, or Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 7, Kleinfeltersville, PA 17039.
