Adelaide Garcia

Adelaide M. (Chaves) Garcia – 93, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Laurenio S. Garcia, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.

Born on the island of Santa Maria in the Açores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose A. Chaves and Angelina Loura.

Adelaide was an avid reader, finding joy and solace in the pages of countless books. Her business savvy was well recognized, and she was a devoted caretaker, always putting her family and children at the forefront of her life. For Adelaide, family was everything, and she left a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Devoted mother of Cidalia M. Lordelo of Norwell, Massachusetts, Helder Garcia and his wife Alda of Scituate, Massachusetts, Francisco Garcia of Braintree, Massachusetts, and Ivo Garcia and his wife Robin of Slingerlands, New York.

Cherished grandmother of 6 grandchildren, Monica MacFarlane and her husband Scott, Nicole Lordelo and her husband David Alger, Brianna Garcia, Justin Garcia, Aijah Garcia, Atticus Garcia; and 5 great grandchildren, Parker MacFarlane, Ella Adelaide MacFarlane, Rowan Alger, Reed Alger, Leo Alger.

She is also survived by her sister, Dora Chaves, brother, Agnelo Chaves, and niece, Christine Chaves.
