

Barbara Ann Stieglitz passed away early in the morning on Friday, January 6th, in her family home. She was born August, 7th 1940, the daughter of Adolph Wacker and Stephanie Poglitsch Wacker in New Britain, CT. Barbara attended New Britain High school and graduated in the class of 1958. She received her nursing degree from New Britain General Hospital. She later received a Bachelor’s degree in English from UMASS Boston with a focus in creative writing.
In July of 1964 Barbara married her husband, Albert Stieglitz. The two soon settled down in Indianapolis, Indiana and later moved to Massachusetts to raise their two children. They shared over 58 years of marriage together.
Barbara spent decades saving lives and working as a nurse in the intensive care units across Indianapolis, Indiana and Boston, Massachusetts. Her passion for nursing was demonstrated through her leadership while training and developing nursing students in Dorchester, MA for nearly 20 years. She later served as president of the Nurses’ association in Scituate.
Barbara enjoyed reading, walking, visiting beaches, and observing the wildlife of Scituate. She was fascinated by the study of animal behavior (both domestic and wild). Her love of animals was known to all and she remained an animal advocate her entire life.
Barbara was known as a pillar of the community in Scituate, MA. She served over 20 years as executive director of the Scituate food pantry. During her time as executive director, the food pantry more than tripled the number of families it serves. While at the pantry she provided nutrition and health counseling to clients of the food pantry. Barbara has touched many lives within this community personally and has always exemplified endless dedication to public service.
Barbara is survived by her husband, attorney Albert Stieglitz, and their children Kimberly Stieglitz and Mark Stieglitz and his wife Andrea Zarins Poirier. She is also survived by her brother Charlie Wacker and family and her sister Carol Callahan as well as her beloved grandchildren: Lauren Barbara Barfell , Kathryn Abellan, Stephanie Joseph, and Jennifer Stieglitz and 3 great grandchildren: Aiden, Lily, and Ella.
Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend. Her memorial service will take place Saturday, February 4th at 1:00pm at Christ Lutheran Church: 460 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy. Scituate, MA 02066. Flower donations should be sent directly to Christ Lutheran Church the day prior to the service.
