Caroline "Carrie" Monteiro

Caroline “Carrie” (Rodrigues) Monteiro – 90, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of November 17, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born on April 5, 1932 in Marshfield, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary H. (Perry) Rodrigues she was one of 10 children. Carrie was the beloved wife of John Monteiro Jr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Carrie was a kind, generous, resilient, loving woman of God who cared for everyone and always had time for people, especially her family. She had a great sense of humor that had a rhythm and rhyme along with an infectious laugh that would lift your spirits. Her home was a welcoming haven where there was always a meal ready to be shared or a Word of encouragement. A faithful member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in East Freetown, Carrie had a call to minister. For many years she worked as a Home Health Aid and would visit the sick along with spending time at local Nursing Homes. She loved traveling with her husband every summer on her church trips and helped cook for their fundraising efforts.

Carrie enjoyed spending time with her children and was affectionately known as “Fun Gramma or Gramma Carrie”. She always showered her grandchildren with special gifts that she selected, or made sure their birthdays and special occasions where celebrated with a homemade Cake, Fruit Truffle or special meal.

Carrie was the devoted mother of Lauri Ann Lopes, Joseph M. "Wolf" Lopes Jr (Tracy), Adelle M. “Kitty” Lopes, John Monteiro III, step-mother of Anna Monteiro-Roderick (Ricky), Beverly "Jean" Monteiro-Cohen (Anthony), Steve Fernandes (Penny). She also leaves to cherish her memory 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Robert Rodrigues (Linda) of Marshfield, Dorothea Corcoran of Braintree the late Benjamin, Nelson, Roland, Arthur, Joyce Rodrigues and Margaret Austin. A host of nieces, nephews and friends will mourn her passing and will miss her wit and charm.
