
John Carr was born in the UK where he lived until moving to the US in 2009 with his American wife, Patrice Metro. He was delighted to find Scituate while searching for the perfect Boston area home. He loved gardening, cooking for his family, and writing, completing an historical novel shortly before his death.
After graduating from Cambridge University, he was a journalist and then moved into management at Times Newspapers, London. He was a director and general manager of The Sunday Times.
John became CEO of CADW, Welsh Historic Monuments after a career shift to heritage management. He consulted on heritage in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. He was awarded the CBE for his services to Welsh heritage by Queen Elizabeth.
Prior to moving to the US, John was Chairman of the Swansea NHS Trust which managed 9 hospitals. His personal commitment to improving health care led him to donate his body to science.
He died peacefully on November 17, aged 74, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer. In addition to his wife, John is survived by 3 daughters, a son and their families including 7 grandchildren.
