
Scituate-Edward F. Murphy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Feb. 18th, 2011. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Dr. Edward C. Murphy and Mary E. Higgins, and brother of the late Dr. Alfred P. Murphy all of Dorchester. His family had a summer home on second cliff in Scituate so that his love of the ocean and boating began at a young age. He was a graduate of Boston Latin School and attended St. Michael’s College for a year when he decided to join the Army. After his discharge from the Army in 1946 he attended and graduated from Boston University. He was employed as a social worker in Boston for a while before becoming a Parole Officer, ultimately becoming Supervisor of the Parole Officers Board, Boston. In addition he also sold real estate and was a licensed contractor who built homes. After his retirement as Supervisor, he established Atlantic Marine Surveyors and Contractors and continued there until present. He was a member of the MA Police Association, the Disabled American Veterans, Marshfield, and the American Legion, Post 118, Cohasset. He is survived by his wife; Carol A. Craig, a son; Edward F. Murphy of Scituate, a brother in –law; R. Richard Craig of Monmouth Jct, NJ. Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate on Friday, Feb. 25th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate at 10AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8PM, interment in Cudworth Cemetery, Scituate. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate, MA 02066.
