A graduate of Brown University, she was a reporter for The Boston Globe for 53 years. She covered the Apollo moon shots, political conventions, the civil rights tumult of the 1960s, and spent a year covering South Africa then still in the grip of apartheid. Gloria wrote a column for the now-defunct Boston Evening Globe. She once went on a training run with heavyweight champion George Frazier before his "fight of the century'' against Muhammad Ali.
Gloria's career in journalism began at the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton. She worked at the New Bedford Standard Times and the Miami Herald before joining the Globe's staff in 1959. Over the next five decades, her byline was a staple of The Boston Globe, for which she turned out lyrical prose informed by precise reporting. She is survived by her Globe family and the dear friends she collected along the way and across the world in New Zealand and Australia.
