

KENNEDY, Jean A. (Reddy) of Lawrenceville, GA and formerly a long-time resident of Scituate, passed away surrounded by her family on July 23, 2011, at the age of 88. Loving wife of the late Thomas A. Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy was a 1939 graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Boston, 1943 graduate of Emmanuel College, Boston and received her M.Ed from Boston State College.
Jean began her 33 year career in elementary education as a 9 year owner of a private kindergarten school in her home, followed by 23 years in the Marshfield Public Schools (a/k/a Jean Murphy) as a classroom teacher, vice-principal and reading consultant. Her passion was teaching young children to read well and develop reading as a life-time joy. Upon retirement, Jean went back to her love for music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She also began to learn oil painting. She continued to be active in Delta Kappa Gamma and the local chapter Alpha Zeta (Women Educators).
Devoted mother of Jean A. Emil of Hingham and Janet L. George of Sugar Hill, GA. Proud grandmother of John H. Peterson, Jennifer A. McNally and Julie A. Blankenship. Also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 27th from 6PM-8PM in the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28st at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate at 10AM, followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
