Joan M. (McGill) Drummond – 95, of Scituate, MA passed away on February 24, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul T. Drummond, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2001. Joan was the daughter of the late Andrew George and Gladys Hobart (Damon) McGill and sister of the late Patricia McGill, each of Scituate. She is survived by her loving children, Paul A. Drummond (Melanie) of San Antonio, TX, Sandra Renner (Thomas) of Brownsburg, IN, Peter H. Drummond (Donna) of Indianapolis, IN, and Mark Alan Drummond of Scituate. Joan was “Nana” to her six cherished grandchildren (Christopher Renner, Nathan and Riley Drummond, and Joseph, Elizabeth, and Peter Drummond) and six great grandchildren (Reagan, Jackson, and Madison Renner, and Emilie, Audrey, and Shiloh Drummond), who adored their “GG.”
Joan was born and raised in Worcester, MA. She attended Bancroft School in Worcester and Wheelock College in Boston. She spent much of her adult life supporting Paul in his career in advertising and raising her family in New Jersey and later, Indiana. Upon Paul’s retirement in 1988, Joan returned to Scituate. The couple moved into her parents' former home on Jackson Road and spent plenty of time at the wonderful summer cottage that has been occupied by Damons, McGills, and Drummonds for eight generations.
Joan was active in her community as a volunteer (Pine Street Inn, Hospice of the South Shore, Girl Scouts of America, and Community Hospital). Her social calendar was generally full, with Red Hat Society outings and summer stock performances with the late, not-so-great, Sandhillettes women’s group. Everyone who knew Joan will remember her kind heart, mischievous smile, and deep affection for family and friends. She loved a good time and her parties and backyard bonfires at the “Clubhouse” (a/k/a 20 Lighthouse Rd.) were legendary. It is no wonder she was dubbed the “Queen of Cedar Point,” an honorary title she humbly embraced.
Joan’s immediate family will place her ashes next to Paul at a private ceremony in Fairview Cemetery. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Scituate Etrusco. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held in the early summer with details to follow. We will gather to laugh, cry, and reminisce. And we’ll raise a glass to our wonderful Joan with her favorite toast, “Here’s to today.”
