

Lena Mary Nurney (Harney) 95 of Scituate passed away on November 24, 2023. Lena (or Sissy to her siblings) passed away peacefully in her home of 12 years surrounded by family and the wonderful nurses and staff of The Lifecare Center of the South Shore in Scituate. She was born in Crannagh, Co. Roscommon Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1951. Lena lived life to the fullest. She met her adoring husband of more than 50 years, the late Thomas J Nurney while dancing to "The Tennessee Waltz". They started a family in Waltham before moving to Cape Cod where they raised three children in West Yarmouth. Lena attended Summerhill School in Ireland and earned her hairdressers license from Wilfred Academy in Boston.
Lena was an avid golfer, had the cutest golf clothes on the course and was proud of her three holes in one. She was an outdoor girl and loved gardening, family picnics at Grays Beach, walking the trails and bogs of Cape Cod, feeding the birds and biking around Cotuit Commons. Lena will be remembered for her laughing Irish eyes, quick wit and ability to fill a room with laughter.
Survived by loving children Mary Feeney and husband Bob of Plymouth, Ann Bourn and husband Wayne of Harwich Port and Thomas Nurney and partner Roberta Groves of Florida. Beloved sister of Joseph Harney and wife Sally of Walpole. Cherished grandmother to Kate Branda (Feeney) and husband Dave of West Roxbury, Erin Carney (Feeney) and husband Brian of Dedham, Meaghan Sylvester (Feeney) and husband Michael of Scituate, Cheryl Bourn of Harwich Port, Thomas D. Nurney of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Karsen Nurney of Fernandina beach Florida, step grandchildren Wendy Parker and Ryan Bourn. Great Grandmother to Owen and Grace Carney of Dedham and Evelyn (middle name Lena) and Jack Sylvester of Scituate. Lena was predeceased by her siblings Mae, Bridie, Kitty, Patrick Martha, Michael and Christy.
Also survived by her cherished nieces, nephews and cousins here in the United States and in Ireland.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday December 9, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Burial will take place on Monday December 11, 2023 at 9:30am at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
