Louise Josephine (Crowley) Dodds, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, at home in Scituate, Massachusetts surrounded by loving family. Louise was born on June 25, 1930, to the late John and Adelaide Crowley of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
Louise graduated from high school before attending and graduating from Emmanuel College in Boston where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. After graduation, she worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company where she eventually became Director of Personnel at their store in Quincy, Massachusetts. During the late 1960s and 1970s, she took time away from her professional career to raise her sons, Jonathan and Jeremy. She later returned to work and held positions as an associate in the personnel office at South Shore Hospital, as a stamp appraiser for H.E. Harris, and as a door-to-door salesperson for Electrolux. She retired from work in the early 1990s.
Louise married the love of her life, Donald, on September 14, 1958. Soon after that, they moved to Scituate to raise a family where their love grew and flourished over the next 64 years. Together they loved working on cars, cooking, reading, being with friends, and raising their boys. Most of all they loved each other and lived a long and wonderful life together. They respected each other, laughed together, helped each other through difficult times and never wanted to be apart for long. Since Donald’s passing in February, Louise has awaited their being together again.
Louise was intelligent, witty, and had a keen sense of humor until the end of her days. She was a voracious reader particularly enjoying mysteries and thrillers. Louise loved food. She enjoyed cooking but also loved just reading cookbooks to learn more about food. Enabled by Donald, Louise ultimately amassed a cookbook collection, astounding those who see it, that numbers in the thousands. Louise enjoyed life to the fullest and, right to the end, never needed an excuse for a party.
Louise was predeceased by her loving husband Donald James Dodds and her sister, Adelaide (Crowley) Jaskol. She leaves behind her sons, Jonathan and Jeremy Dodds and their partners, Christine (Edelstein) and Jill Weldum, as well as her grandchildren, Jared, Morgan, Lauren, and Emily.
Calling hours will be held at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home at 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on January 6, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a short graveside ceremony at the Cudworth Veteran’s Cemetery at 12:15 pm. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in Louise’s name to the Scituate Animal Shelter at https://scituateanimalshelter.org/donate.
