Marian Graczyk of Scituate, MA, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on September 11, 2024 with her close friend Kathy Fanning at her side. Marian was born on August 26, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. She is predeceased by her parents, Martha (Moscinski) and Chester Graczyk, as well as her siblings, Les, Chester, Delphine, and George. She is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Illinois, as well as by her adopted Massachusetts family, Bob and Kathy Fanning of Pembroke and their children, John (Abby), Matthew (Emily), Nora Cadman (Matt), and their five granddaughters, Avery, Harper, Eloise, Alma, and Naomi. Marian lived life to the fullest and was loved by all.
In 1952 Marian entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and taught for many years as Mother Mary Richard. Marian left the Holy Child Order in 1973 but continued her career in education at the Cardinal Cushing School and Training Center in Hanover and Notre Dame Academy in Hingham. Marian’s Catholic faith was very important to her and for many years she was actively involved at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham.
After retirement Marian enjoyed spending time with her many friends, traveling, walking, gardening, and cooking. Most importantly, she continued living a life of service to others. Her generosity, faith, and love of life will be missed by all who knew her. Visiting hours will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Cohasset on Friday, September 20, 2024 starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Project Bread, 145 Border Street, Boston, MA 02128, or the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Mission Advancement Office, 1341 Montgomery Avenue, Rosemont, PA 19010. Marian’s remains will be interred at Glastonbury Abbey at a later date.
