Mary Patricia Bowen

Mary Patricia Pat (McGillicuddy) Bowen, of Scituate, passed away peacefully Jan. 27, 2012, at the age of 84. She born and raised in Brighton, graduated from Notre Dame Academy on Granby Street in Boston, and Regis College in Weston. Mrs. Bowen summered with her family, the McGillicuddys, in Scituate beginning in 1934. In 1956, she married Richard M. Bowen, also from Brighton, and they bought a home in the Minot section of Scituate where they have lived ever since. She loved her beach life. After teaching in the Boston school system, Mrs. Bowen later taught in the Rockland School System for 25 years. She was the beloved mother of five children, Richard of Scituate, Kathleen Anderson of N. Attleboro, Carol Bowen of NY, Paul of Newton, the late Mark and grandmother of six. She is survived by her brother Thomas McGillicuddy of Needham and her sister Alice McGillicuddy of Scituate. Mrs. Bowen was a very active participant in the community. She was a parishioner, taught CCD and was a member of the choir at St Francis Xavier Cabrini Church for 25 years. She was on the Scituate Handicapped Commission. Friends and family are invited to attending visiting hours Monday, Jan. 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate at 10 a.m., burial will be private.
