

Mary Heaphy LeVangie, 80, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John A. LeVangie, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Beverly, Massachusetts, Mary was the daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Chambers) Heaphy. She attended Merrimack College, where she studied science, and later earned her Master’s degree in School Counseling, along with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies, from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Mary began her career as a science teacher before discovering her true calling as a Guidance Counselor, a role she cherished during her 18 years at Westwood High School. Her compassion, dedication, and ability to truly connect with students made a profound and lasting impact. Mary’s unwavering support and gentle guidance helped countless young people find their way, and she was honored as Massachusetts Counselor of the Year in 2006.
Mary found joy in dancing, listening to music, traveling with her husband, and, above all, spending time with her family. Mary never missed a chance to support her husband and children, attending every game and event and cheering the loudest as their greatest fan.
She is the cherished mother of Jack LeVangie of Rhode Island, Nicole Bent and her husband, Matthew, of West Roxbury, and Matthew LeVangie and his wife, Kristen, of Danvers. Mary was “Gigi” to five adored grandchildren Atticus, Lyle, Colton, Mila, and Athena, who brought boundless joy to her life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 3–7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Meetinghouse Lane, Scituate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
