she left this world peacefully on August 15, 2021. She was in the loving care of the medical team at Carney Hospital near her home in Dorchester, MA while also held steadily in prayer and the love of her global community of family and friends.
Netchie’s beautiful smile, the sparkle in her eyes, and her sweet laughter always brought joy and
peace into our hearts. Whoever she was with, you were family. She would introduce herself as
"The Net That Catches The Chi" (Net chie). She touched many people. She will be deeply missed.
Netchie was born to Lula Mae Thames on September 15,1956 in Jackson, Mississippi. At age 16 she decided to give her life to the Creator, joining the convent in Boston, MA. She then traveled the world doing God’s work, always referring to God as “The Boss”.
Netchie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a positive way. She participated in many communities religiously and spiritually on a regular basis including the Sunray Meditation Society and Peace Village, Northminster Baptist Church, and the Transmission Meditation Group. She was a treasured, longtime Associate and dear friend of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Mn. and an active member of the Sisters and Associates of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in Wisconsin where she visited regularly, participating monthly via prayer meetings at the San Damiano House of Prayer in Lowell, MA until 2019, and then later via zoom until her passing.
An extraordinary friend and teacher, Netchie taught us the power of prayer, connection, friendship, humility, joy, laughter, celebration, and community. A Grandmother in the native traditions, she was also grandmother to us all - a wise, loving elder you could rely on for wise counsel. May we each walk on in life blessed by what we have shared with Netchie, and by all we learned from her.
Netchie is survived by her sisters, Forestine Jennings, Juanita Thames, Ersie Metellus, Aubrey Thames-Roberts, sister-in-law Lucy Thames, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and host of
friends around the world.
Prayer services are being held among her various communities. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to the family via Beatrice Metellus, 24447 Finley Dr., Moreno Valley, CA 92553 or donations made to Sunray Peace Village at www.sunray.org or to Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, Attention: Office of Associate Relationship, 322l South Lake Drive, St. Francis, WI 53235-3702 www.lakeosfs.org Please indicate that the donation is in memory of Netchie, OSF Associate who died on August 15, 2021, and that Netchie was an OSF Associate from the Lowell, MA Franciscan Companion Group.
