Peter Hale Cooney

Peter was born and raised in Arlington, MA, summered in Scituate, MA. The son of Harold and Mildred Cooney, Peter graduated Middlebury College in 1954. He began his 58 year career as a CPA with Arthur Anderson and later joined his father in private practice in Boston before moving to Hanover. Peter served in the Army from 1954 -1956. Hockey and baseball were a lifelong passion and love of Peters. He played and coached competitively for many years, with a final count of 8,449 goals scored! Along with sports, his love for gardening was endless.

Beloved husband of Diane (Miliotis) and the late Patricia (Sheridan). Devoted and loving father of Judith Joseph (late), Laura Carroll and her husband Joseph, Peter Jr. and his wife Diane, Garrett and his wife Cathleen, Michael and his fiancé Lisa Coyne all of Scituate, Elizabeth Wrigley and her husband Kevin of Wells, ME, Emily Kyriakides and her husband Ted of Duxbury, Andrew Cooney of Pembroke, Jenna Dann and her husband Jared of Norwell, Stepfather of Peter Miliotis of Franklin, NH. Brother of Mary Lou Manning and her husband John of Rockville, MD, Nancy Ryan and her husband Dr. Thomas Ryan of York, ME and Dr. David Cooney of Bethesda, MD. Very proud grandfather of 19 and great grandfather of 5. Loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 24th in the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate from 4pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s of the Nativity, 1 Kent St, Scituate on Friday, April 25th at 10 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society and VNA of Cape Cod Hospice, South Dennis.
