

Regina Ellen (nee Kelly) Baumann, 86, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. Born in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn, New York, in 1938 as the second of four children to Bernard L. Kelly, a New York City Fireman, and Regina G. O’Connell, she grew up in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, graduating from St. Saviour High School in 1956. She met her future husband, Gerard R. “Jerry” Baumann while they were counselors at the CYO Camp at Coney Island.
She married Lieutenant, Junior Grade Gerard R. Baumann, USN, in June 1957. While stationed in Virginia, they welcomed their first two children, Bob and Cathy. After they returned to Brooklyn in 1960, they added Michael, Eileen, Elizabeth, and James to their family. The family moved to Pennsylvania in 1973 and New Jersey in 1982. Praying her husband into becoming a Friend of Bill’s in 1982 was a major accomplishment of her faith. Regina was focused on rearing and educating her children and was active in the Catholic community, wherever the family called home. While living in New Jersey, she was assistant to the Placement Director at St. Elizabeth’s College in Convent Station. Regina and Jerry settled in Scituate, Massachusetts, in 2004. A devout Catholic, she was a Lector at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate and a Eucharistic Minister at several local hospitals. Regina volunteered for the Scituate Food Pantry.
Beginning in 1991, Regina and her husband traveled extensively abroad. Her favorite trip was a Franciscan pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2009. Both Brooklyn Dodgers fans they loved watching the Red Sox games together. She was an avid reader and writer of poetry.
Regina is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gerard R. Baumann, Sr.; her children, Gerard Robert Jr and his wife, Nancy, of West Chester, PA; Catherine Lobo and her husband Paul of Baltimore, MD; Michael of Chesapeake , VA and his partner Jeanne; Eileen Latzko and her husband Edward of Philadelphia, PA; Elizabeth Dorgan and her husband Bill of Scituate, MA; and James and his wife, Jessica, of Patterson, NY. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Baumann, Catherine Baumann, James Lobo, John Lobo, Christopher Lobo, Matthew Moreau, Scott Baumann, Alex Baumann, Nicholas Latzko, Regina Latzko, Sarah Dorgan, Mary Ann Dorgan, and Brennan Baumann as well as one great-grandchild, Logan Latzko.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard L. Kelly and Regina O’Connell of Brooklyn, NY, and her brother, Bernard L. Kelly, Jr. of Brick, NJ. Her sisters survive her: Anne Dennehy and her husband Fred of Cranbury, NJ, and Maureen Janeski and her husband Jim of Manhattan, NY, as does her brother’s widow, Mary.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. At 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 28, at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate, a Funeral Mass will be offered in her honor. Interment will be private.
