

Richard Arthur Bean, age 82, of Hanover, Massachusetts and formerly of Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2016. Born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, he was the son of Van Ness and Margaret (McInnis) Bean, and brother of the late Van Ness Bean, Jr. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Gretchen (Hebb), and two children, Lucy and husband Scott Jenkins of Hanover, Massachusetts, and Charles and his wife Nancy (Collins) of Braintree, Massachusetts. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Richard served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and subsequently attended the University of Vermont and then the University of Connecticut, where he received his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse for several years before taking a teaching position at Northeastern University in Boston. He moved over to Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he remained as first an associate, then full Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering until his retirement. He was presented with an honorary doctorate by the school in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to his students.
Richard was a quiet man who enjoyed time with his family and doing crossword puzzles (in pen). He greatly enjoyed watching the Patriots and was looking forward to another Red Sox world championship.
Services will be held privately.
